The Roots and Refuge series began with two very simple questions “Why do big plants have small roots systems and how is it that small plants have immense root balls? What is the relationship of these two phenomena’s?” Early on I was more fascinated by their size, shape and texture. As I continued to dig deeper, I realized that my reverence and respect for the strength of roots structures had more to do with how I see the world community than the physical structures of roots themselves. Could it be that people who appeared strong and self-assured really had fragile roots or was it possible that quiet, uncomplicated people were sustained with deep strong roots? Roots remain my muse…
